We got back today from a wonderful vacation at the Dells. We left last Friday and were gone all week. As Abe said "at our 'cation spot!" Despite the commercialization, it was a beautiful area. Everything has a price tag there... what got me this morning was the restaurant we ate at before we left charges $2.50 for sharing a plate! But all that being said, it was fun and such a relaxing time. I guess, we had kind of forgotten what it means to relax. Our last vacation was 5 years ago with a group of friends- before we were pregnant with Abe. By Monday I was forgetting what day it was and just enjoying the time.
We rode the Original WI Ducks, we went to an awesome water park... the Wilderness resort, we went to a railway museum, but most of all we rested and played as a family.
The place we stayed had two swimming pools and a park. It also had a pond where spoiled ducks lived that were fed all day long... which we appeased them and fed them, too. Only from us the received sugar-free, high-fiber, whole grain bread! WE slept in, watched cable and had fun meeting people from all over... there were actually quite a bit of foreigners there working. We did not get any cheese, though.
We all enjoyed the water park. Abe morphed into a little fish, because he was all over the slides, and the pools. I took him up one in hopes that they would let him go down, but he was too little. He cried all the way down the stairs, and I was telling him that they just did not know how brave he really was. But he got over it pretty quickly when we got back in the pool. Jonah did great, too. He fell asleep twice on me and raft on a lazy river. We all got some sun that day and it took us a whole day to recover!
One thing I did do for myself was that I read 2 books! I love a good novel, and I picked up the books The Kite Runner, and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khalled Hosseini.. Both are novels based in Afghanistan... during the past 30 years. I love the storries, and how much I have learned about that culture. I guess I have a new appreciation for my life and the gratefulness I have for just being an American. I am lucky to have been born an American... most women have no rights in countries like that. A good book does this, it changes your perspective about other and about yourself. I recommend them both. Growing up, I always took a book or two on vacation... I love reading for pleasure and when I can do it without worrying about other obligations, it becomes more than just reading, I get lost in another world. Whimsical, I know, but you know, my mind is still in vacation mode, I guess!
On our way back home today, Abe was crying to go back to vacation... I was wanting that too! I will post more after I get my pics downloaded. Funtimes, here!
